With wallpapers being a printed product they are produced in repeated yet limited runs of around 1500+ rolls at a time or as required by a manufacturer.
Each time wallpaper is reproduced variations can occur within the specification and tolerance of quality control. These variations can affect all aspects of the product with exception to the physical pattern etched into the print roller/cylinder.
You may find a wallpaper has the following increase/decrease between batches:
Yes, some wallpapers are simply not compatible with a traditional flake paste formulation, no matter which ratio you mix them to. These wallpapers require a ready mixed wallcovering adhesive, these are low moisture in nature and offer additional grab to support heavier vinyls, foils and other wallpaper situations.
We would recommend a ready mixed adhesive for all Italian / Heavyweight Vinyl’s, all Foil Wallpapers and for use within a high humidity areas such as a Kitchen/Bathroom or Wash Room.
Yes of course, we offer a complete sample service on stock wallpapers.
While most samples are offered complimentary thanks to their limited size, a small charge is necessary where more than five samples are requested (50p per additional standard sample).
On selected patterns that particularly require a full pattern repeat sample (approximately 0.5m / 2ft length), a small charge of £1.50 will be applicable.
This will also apply if the price of a wallcovering dictates a charge is needed, we believe this to be the fairest way to offer this service over increasing the roll price to all customers.
In short, no.
With production taking place all around the world, old and established practices should not be used as default any longer.
Always check any available imagery of a product online or contact us if you are struggling to establish the correct way of hanging.
Always use nature as a benchmark, trees, flowers and trailing patterns always grow up as if towards the sunlight, birds will sit in trees rather than hang from them.
Where it is a little more difficult to check is with geometric or abstract patterns, these will have a direction to follow however you may prefer to hang them in reverse or even horizontally to gain your chosen look.
We would also add to check the direction of hanging on plain wallpapers, a few of these require reverse hanging - where every other length is hung upside down. See our How-to guides for more info.
This varies depending on the ventilation in the room and the time of year (temperatures), usually within the week but has been known on occasion to take longer. All wallpapers should be allowed to dry naturally, without any additional heat sources or unwanted drafts.
For a standard UK roll of wallpaper (10.05m x 53cm) you should achieve 3 full lengths where a pattern is present and requires pattern matching, and up to 4 lengths on a free match wallpaper where no pattern is matched and only trimming wastage is required. This is based on an average floor to ceiling height of 2.3-2.5 (7’6”- 8’0” approx).
Each wallpaper label will dictate if matching is required plus lots of other information using an international standard symbol system. Learn more about roll symbols here.

This information will be found on a wallpaper rolls label, for an explanation of each of the types of pattern matching commonly used we have a great guide. Click here to read more
If a pattern is visible and cuts off on the end of the roll then this will be pattern matched, where a pattern is visible but does not overhang the ends of the roll then there may be a choice to match or not.
Chosen a plain wallpaper? This should be free of any matching but may need to be reverse hung..check the roll label before hanging.
It is recommended that you purchase sufficient rolls for the job in hand as repeat sales cannot be guaranteed.

Following all decorating instructions is a really important process and the advice given on the roll label is to be taken as gospel. This includes checking batches, inspecting the rolls / print for any colour variation before hanging and stopping hanging to do a thorough inspection after hanging a full roll (normally 3-4 lengths).
This will be dictated on the roll label by a specific symbol and the correct hanging method should be followed.
You can only paste the wall where specified if in doubt paste the reverse of the product and allow to become supple or ideally Contact us and we can check this for you.
